SADI

SADI (about 1184 to 1283/1291)
One way I like to “get more gay” is to read Sufi mystic poetry. It might sound kind of esoteric but these guys are horny and hot! And surprisingly contemporary given that they were writing in the 12th century Middle East! The Sufis believed that in contemplating the image of the beloved (who was always male) you would discover God.

Something I am working on consciously considering when I look at porno.

I am moved by the importance that is placed on Gay love by Sufi poets. Often they say to disregard everything in the external world, to “throw it all away”, and focus only on your lover-man. It reveals a beautiful value system where the importance of love, comradeship, and gay spirit transcends the love of power, or desire for money, fame, or materialistic gain.

Something I think the world could work on consciously considering.

One example of this philosophy comes from the Sufi mystic poet Sadi.
Sadi is a major Persian poet of the medieval period. Ralph Waldo Emerson is one of his biggest fans. He is recognized not only for the excellence of his writing, but also for the depth of his social thoughts. Here are three short poems by Sadi for you to enjoy.

If an obnoxious person comes before the light,
Jump up and put it out in the midst of the party;
And if he be one with a sweet smile, and sweet lips,
Take hold of his sleeve, and extinguish the light.

Of One Essence is the Human Race,
Thusly has Creation put the Base.
One Limb impacted is sufficient,
For all Others to feel the Mace.
The Unconcern'd with Others' Plight,
Are but Brutes with Human Face.

For Sadi the ways and modes of lovemaking
Knows as well as they know Arabic in Baghdad
The beloved that thou hast, fix thy heart on him alone,
And thenceforth close thine eyes to all the world beside.

Statement of purpose for Get More Gay Blog

 Hello!

My name is Ian MacKinnon and I am a gay centered performance artist living in Los Angeles.

Thanks for checking out my blog project "GET MORE GAY".

I will be posting on gay stuff that crosses my path including indulging my gay history fetish by reporting my research on gay greats who turn me on, plus a "Queer Artist Centerfold Project" to keep an eye on current queer art culture in LA, and I'll share the thoughts, struggles, and inspirations that come up for me around my deepening pursuit to understand what it means to be and become "authentically gay".

I hope you enjoy it.
